- [Instructor] There are two LEED credits that encourage limiting a building's footprint so that a portion of the land is reserved for open spaces for building occupant use, and native and adapted vegetation. Site Development: Protect or Restore Habit credit awards points for projects that preserve and protect greenfields on a site if such areas exist prior to construction. Greenfields are areas that have not been previously developed, graded, or disturbed, and could support open space, habit, or natural hydrology. In addition to protecting a portion of the greenfield area on site from construction on development activities, Site Development: Protect or Restore Habit credit also requires meeting the option of on site restoration of soils, and using native and adapted vegetation. A quick note: covering your site with turf does not work for this credit. Some projects with limited land may not be able to meet the credit requirements.
