Themes: What they are and how they work

- [Instructor] The front end appearance of a WordPress site is controlled by its currently active theme. A theme is a collection of template files and functions which define what features are available on the front end and how the content is presented. WordPress ships with a set of default themes named after the year they were released, so for example Twenty Sixteen and Twenty Seventeen and Twenty Nineteen. Just in case you're wondering, there is no 2018 theme. The theme controls the presentation of your content on the public facing front end of your site. It does not impact your content in any significant way. That means you can change the theme of your site at any time and thereby change the appearance of your site without having to make significant changes to your content in the process. That said, each theme you install has its own custom features and customization options and when you install a theme, you'll most likely need to set aside some time to configure it and your content…
