- [Instructor] As we talk about customizing themes, let me remind you of an important and wonderful dynamic of working with child themes. There's WordPress, the engine of your site. We never edit those files. There's the Genesis Framework, or the parent theme, and we never edit those core files. And then there's the child theme and we can edit that to our hearts' content. That means that we can update WordPress or Genesis any time there's an update available without fear of overriding our customizations. But what about child themes? Well, feel free to make them your own. Do anything you want because there are rarely updates for child themes, and if there is an update available for your child theme, I recommend not installing it. And that may sound weird, but let me tell you why. Unlike WordPress or Genesis, you won't receive any update notifications for a child theme in your WordPress admin. And if an important update…
