- [Narrator] If you decide that you want to use WooCommerce templates, there's one more thing you need to know in order to use them safely. Plugins, just like themes, update every so often and in the case of WooCommerce, sometimes those updates include an update to the template file. When a theme updates a template, they're usually adding extra markup or CSS classes, and very few things break. When WooCommerce updates a template, it might be for the same reason, but that CSS class might be used for something critical. For example, a bit of JavaScript code that validates the available variations of a product before adding it to your cart. If you want your online store running correctly, templates have to be up to date. Before we update a template, we need to know when to update. Template updates aren't all that common, they should only happen with major and minor versions. WooCommerce uses semantic versioning, which looks like this, major.minor.patch.
