What is a membership site?

- [Instructor] When thinking about membership in the offline world, you might think of things like membership to a gym or membership to a wholesaler club like Costco. You pay an agreed fee and that literally gets you in the door. In the online world, the concept is similar. A membership site lets a member register on your site and likely pay you for it, and lets you offer different experiences to members than you do for other site visitors. Membership sites come in a lot of flavors and can be used for a variety of purposes. Let's talk about some popular models. First, you might see a membership site for an online community. This type of site might include access to private forums or messaging systems or some other social component or means of communicating. Another type of membership site you might see is for training, coaching or consulting. In this case, the membership might include access to an online course, live video streams, prerecorded sessions or even one-on-one consultations. Next, you might find a drip feed membership site. In this model, content is released or drip at regular intervals to keep members coming back for more. Then, there's the all you can eat membership site. Unlike a drip feed, this type of membership gives access to everything as soon as a user signs up. The last type I'll mention is for corporate memberships or teams. This might be great for something like a mastermind or a corporate training account. Of course, you can also find membership sites that are hybrids of these models combining access to content, services or products. While many membership sites require payment to access restricted information, they don't necessarily have to, but regardless of the type of information or the way it's released, a membership site simply provides a way to grant access to an exclusive experience.
