Why spam comments are dangerous for WordPress sites

- [Instructor] As blogs became more popular in the early 2000's, hackers and spammers found ways to take advantage. WordPress is at its core a blogging platform. So even if you don't utilize posts, and only use pages, it's still possible to accumulate harmful spam. Not all spam comments are dangerous. In fact, most aren't. But they can be annoying, ugly, inappropriate, and put your readers at risk. Many spam comments contain malicious links designed to trick visitors into giving away personal information. These links can also be used to transmit viruses and inject malicious code onto your server or computer. This is called an SQL injection attack. We spoke in a previous video about the relationship between website files and the servers and databases. Hackers can use spam comments to inject and execute malicious SQL statements on your database.
