What makes good content

- All right, time to upload this baby to YouTube. Whoa! You're me. - That's right, from the future. And we need to talk about what makes good content, before you just go uploading videos to YouTube all willy nilly. - You mean, not everyone wants to watch a video of me playing the bassoon? - Ah, mm, mm. - What makes a video good, can definitely be subjective. Maybe you're into superhero movies, so you like that superhero movie review. Or maybe you're into dogs, so you love that video with the dog with the cone on its head and it always makes you laugh. Either way, here's some universal tips, that can help you make sure you're off to a good start, before you even shoot your video. Number one is the base of all videos, good visuals and sound. Now, this doesn't mean you have to have the sickest of gear. Sick gear. No, I said you don't need sick gear. Oh. But it does mean that you should make sure your subject is well-lit and most importantly, has good sound. Surprisingly, viewers are more okay with low-quality visuals, than they are sound. In fact, bad sound can even trick a viewer's brain into thinking the visuals are bad too, even when they aren't. - Eh? - When I said get sriracha at the store, this is not what I meant. - Oh. Eh? - When I said get sriracha at the store, this is not what I meant. - Oh. - So before you go out and buy the sickest of cameras, make sure you invest in a good microphone. When it comes to good visuals, make sure your subject is composed nicely in the frame. Either to the right, to the center, or to the left. Number two is make sure your video has added value. What I mean by this is, after watching your video, the viewer should've gained value of some sort. For example, your video could be funny and it gets them to laugh. Or, you could teach them something they didn't already know, share important information, or inspire them. All of these are examples of added value. And if you can do more than one, then you're golden. - [Announcer] And the winner of the corny education award goes to Ash. - Thank you, thank you. I couldn't have done it without me. Number three is make sure your video is shareable. Before you even start shooting your video, ask yourself, is this a video I would share, or has somebody else already made this video? Do some research and planning and make sure your idea is one that people will want to share. For example, maybe you could do a video on a current hot topic, like how to do cool tricks with fidget spinners. (glass crashes) Oops. Number four goes back to our basic caveman roots, tell a story. Whether you're telling your story, the story of a historical figure, a current news story, or the story of how to make a pie, inserting a story helps the viewer connect with the subject at hand. Plus, humans have already been doing it for a really long time, so you're a natural at it. And finally, number five, stay focused on topic. No one likes to hear someone ramble on and on about what they had for breakfast, when they came here for dating tips. You made a promise to your viewers in your title, so make sure you really deliver on it. So just make sure you double-check these five staples of good content, while planning out your video and you'll be sure to be the cream of the crop. - [Announcer] Yeah, we're going to have to take that back now. - No never!
