Building a simple rig in Maya
- [Instructor] So the first thing I want to do is not worry about any of the positioning but just worry about getting my joints in place. So I'm going to focus on literally rigging this model. Now if you've never rigged before, to be honest with you, it's, in this case, this is what I call a poseable rig, we're not literally building a rig, we're just building something to bind or mesh to and move it. So it's actually quite easy, but I'm going to go over to my skeleton joint tool, and I'll start at the shoulder. What I'll also do is just turn this into X-Ray mode so that I can see everything a little bit easier. And in Maya, if we press Y, what that does is it ends the tool selection but it keeps the tool active. This way, I can just click--I don't want to connect my joints just yet, I just want to place them. So I need to place an additional one somewhere in this area actually, according to the concept art. I definitely need a joint in the wrist, and then I'll need a couple of them…
