Controlling dynamic brush size

- As I've talking about before in this course, dynamic brush size mode can be helpful, but it can also be cumbersome to deal with. Zbrush 2018 adds a new feature that makes things easier, but there's still some hiccups. Let's see how to fix the problem for good. Now, without getting into too many technical details, I'll just say that I like dynamic mode to always be off, except in a few instances where it actually is useful. Now you can turn dynamic mode on and off by double-clicking on the word dynamic here. ZBrush 2018 has added this mode right here, which means remember dynamic mode per brush. Now, by default this is turned off. So, ideally what this would do is, if you turn it off, that means that every brush you open is going to have dynamic mode turned off, which is what I hoped it would, however there is one glitch, which I will show you. If we hit B, Z, and pick the ZModeler brush, you get this pop up and it tells us that this brush always works with dynamic draw size mode turned on. So, let's click okay. So you can see with this brush, it turns on dynamic mode. Now if I go back to a different brush, B, C, and get that same brush we had before, you can see dynamic mode stays on. Now, I'm using ZModeler brush all the time, so if I switch to that brush and then switch back to whatever I was using, it turns dynamic mode on and I just find that very annoying. So what Zbrush did in 2018 with this button, if we turn this mode on, what it should do is remember the dynamic mode per brush. So, if we turn it off here and then get the ZModeler brush, B, Z, M, notice it turns on dynamic, we go back to clay, B, C, L, it's off and that's fine however, the problem is that every brush in Zbrush has dynamic turned on by default. So, if we go to some other brush, let's hit B, and let's just say hPolish for some reason, dynamic is turned on. That means you'd have to go through every brush and turn off dynamic mode when you load it, which becomes extremely annoying. So, the only solution to this that I have found, is to turn off dynamic mode for each brush that you want to use and then save over it, so that it saves the fact that dynamic is turned off. So let's save the H polish brush by going to brush, save as, and you need to navigate to the Zbrush installation folder. So, for me it's on the C-drive, program files, Pixelogic, ZBrush and my version number, ZData, brush presets, and it's hPolish. Let's find the H polish brush in here. There it is. And we'll just save over it. Yes, that's fine. Okay, now, every time we switch to this brush, it will make sure that dynamic mode is off. Now, the downside to this, is that you have to go through and do this to every brush that you use on a regular basis. Now, I haven't done this to every single brush on my computer, however I have done it every brush that I know that I'm going to use on a regular basis.
