Creating a facial expression
- As it is now our model has a really nice, neutral expression. This kind of model is great for rigging and animating. However, we can also push it into an expressive pose for a still sculpture. Let’s see how to do that. Now I want to give this sculpt a smile. So let’s use this reference photo as a guide. The way I like to think about sculpting an expression, is the same as modeling in general. Start with the biggest changes and then work down to the smallest. Remember to use your reference image in a separate monitor, or print it out on paper. Ok, lets make some modifications to get this smile. Zoom in a little bit here. Get a bigger draw size on my move brush. And just start pulling things, so that he forms a smile. Now, it’s not just a matter of pulling the mouth out. There’s a lot more going on.
