Duplicating with the Gizmo

- There are lots of ways to make copies of an object, but few are as simple as with the Gizmo. Unlike some other methods, the Gizmo creates copies within the same SubTool, and new with Zbrush 2018, you can create a whole row of copies that are evenly spaced. Let's see how. So in this video we're going to be working on this LED brake light assembly. And on of my SubTools is just two spheres, symmetrically arranged. And what we need to do is make copies of these so we have a nice grid-like arrangement of these LED lights. So first, let's make sure we're looking at this from straight on from behind. So I'm gonna rotate my view and hold down shift so it snaps to a perfect back view. Let's go ahead and zoom in on one of these, and we'll switch to our Gizmo mode. Now it can be slightly hard to see this sphere with the Gizmo in the way, so I'm gonna move the Gizmo off to the side a little bit, just by holding down alt, and clicking and dragging on the move controls. Now before this version you could make copies by holding down control and clicking and dragging. And it just simply makes a copy. But now, in Zbrush 2018, you can do this slightly differently, and make a whole row of evenly spaced copies. So I'm gonna hit control Z to undo that, and let's do this one more time. Holding down control and drag this out, and now without releasing the stylus or the mouse cursor, release the control key. And now continue moving to the right. So what it's going to do is make copies with that same spacing. Now, let's make some copies that do down at an angle. I'm gonna hit control A to mask everything, and then control click in an open area to invert that mask. Now, I wanna have these come down at something of an angle, so you might think that you could do the same thing with this move, and let's see what happens if we do that. So let's hold down control, click and drag on the directional move, and let's see, we'll release here. And then if we continue down, it actually allows us to move this around at any angle. So it's kinda creating these copies wherever we move this. So let's hit control Z to undo this, and let's make sure that we're moving these in exactly a perfect angle. So I'm gonna hold down alt, and click and drag on this, and bring this so that it's at a precise angle. Now let's hold down control and click and drag on this arrow, and release control, and just drag this down one or two more times. So that way knew that these copies are coming down at a consistent straight angle. Alright, now we can move everything together. Let's clear that mask again. Control A, and then control click in an open area. And now let's just reposition this slightly, so things aren't interpenetrating awkwardly. Okay, let's zoom out and see how that looks. We can get out of the Gizmo mode. Alright, looks pretty cool. So, you can see a little bit of practice might be needed to get the key strokes, and the controls just right, but as you can see this came in very handy. We were able to get some nice results very quickly.
