Smoothing a model's open edges

- Here's a quick tip for a problem that can cause a lot of headaches if you don't know the simple solution. When using the smooth brush on a model, any open edges don't get smoothed by default. They'll just stay in place. Sometimes this may be what you want, but often you want to smooth those border edges as well. So let's see how to control that. So my model for this is a 3D scan, and it looks like the scan didn't quite pick up everything. So I'm just going to work with this for a little bit. And let's zoom on this and see what happens if we try to smooth this area out. So I'm going to hold down Shift and just start smoothing. So you can see that this result is probably not what you want. A few points stay locked in place and most of it smooths, but this is kind of an unpredictable result, so let's see how to control for this. I'm going to zoom in a little bit here, and let's undo this by hitting Control + Z. I want to turn on a wireframe to make it easier to see what's going on here…
