- These days we take instant photography for granted, because of course our digital cameras show us what we're shooting right away, but the original instant camera was of course the Polaroid invented by Edwin Land in 1948. I'm here with my friend Jim Heid today to talk about the current state of the art of Polaroid, 'cause Polaroid's still around. - They're still around, and they're kind of marrying the old and the new in some cool ways. Yeah, around 2008 Polaroid announced that they were going to stop making Polaroid film and a lot of Polaroid fans panicked and stocked up their refrigerators with film, including me. And then a European company called The Impossible Project leased the last remaining film factory in the Netherlands and began developing their own emulsions, and the quality was really pretty bad at first, and it's still not up to what Edwin Land's standards would have been, but the film is available now for…
