- When an employee is grieving, a lot of their brain power is taken out by the grief. It's also taken out by a lot of emotions like anxiety and sadness, possibly anger. And they may even just try, be trying to function with the grief, trying to wrap their arms around what has happened to them. As a result of that, as their manager, you may actually need to make some changes to support them. It could be that you talk with them about projects that could be given to other team members or maybe even engage the broader team in what to do and what not to do in terms of the workload. I always like to create a yes list and a no list for my teams. What are we saying yes to, and by the way, grieving needs to go on it for the grieving employee. And then, what are we saying no to? This can be a really helpful tool to make sure you're clear with the employee who's grieving as well as the rest of the team about what is expected from…
