Controlling the stacking order
- [Instructor] In addition to moving objects around the two dimensional space of the canvas, you also need to know how to move them in front of or behind other objects, and that's what we'll see in this movie. So even though it's a 2D drawing program, Inkscape keeps track of the position of objects in three dimensions. You have the X and Y coordinates for left and right, and up and down, and the Z order for depth. Objects are stacked on top of one another as you draw them, so each new object is placed higher in the Z order or what's also called the stacking order, but it doesn't have to stay there. So if I take the ellipse tool and draw a few ellipses, you see what I'm talking about. I can press the space bar to switch to the selector tool and I can move this ellipse on top down by choosing object, lower, or use the keyboard shortcut Page Down.
