Correcting lens issues with After Effects

- Adobe After Effects has a tool for fixing optic issues. This allows you to compensate for any potential lens distortion, and by combining it with rulers, it's easy to fix curved lines. Let's go here, and take a loot, at the two wide-angle shots. You see that this one has pretty good straight lines, but when we switch to a more wider angle lens, we're starting to get unwanted curves. Under "Effects and Presets", just type in "Optic", and we'll choose "Optics Compensation" and drag that onto the clip. Now what we want to do is adjust the field of view. Now, you may not know the field of view, but you can often find this on the lens itself. Field of view and focal length are not the same. You can use a field of view calculator or inspect the lenses to get this information. You also may want to ask the director of photography to note it on the slate.
