- I love this photo of my daughters, but the background is distracting. I tried fixing it in Lightroom, but couldn't get the effect I was after. Photoshop has more options for creating background blur. First, duplicate the background layer and name it blur. Then go to filter. There are lots of blur filters to choose from, but I'll use the Iris filter for this shot. It lets me select the area I want sharp and shows the blur as I'm adjusting it. Move and resize the elliptical to fit the girls' bodies. You can change the shape by clicking and dragging on this square. Use these points to adjust the feathering. I'm going to make some of their hair and part of their bodies out of focus, but I'll fix that later. Now, increase the blur outside the selection with the onboard control wheel or with a slider. Check this box to save the mask to a channel. It'll save time in making a new mask, then click OK. Now go to channels. And…
