Customize Fresco

- [Instructor] Before you get right into drawing and painting, let's take a quick look at some ways to customize Fresco so you have the most comfortable work environment possible for your style of working. I'm just going to use a current screen size document up here at the top where it says start a new document, we're going to tap on current screen size, now this is our interface which we'll get to at another time. What I want to mention now is customization. Up in the top right corner of the screen, you're going to see an icon that looks like the shape of a gear. Going to tap on that, and just at the bottom here, you'll see app settings. So let's open that up. Now, let's go to general. Here you can see some very basic settings for those of you who are right handed or left handed, we have the option for the tool bar which is all your main tools for drawing and painting to be positioned on the left or the right. This is something that if you're a lefty, you might prefer. I'll leave that where it is right now. A lot of people also really like working in dark mode, so that's a popular thing for apps. You can of course select dark mode if you like and this is what it will look like. We can go back to light mode right here. All right, tapping back into app settings again, I want to show you something really cool with the input of your stylus. So what we're looking at here is Apple specific because I'm using an Apple Pencil on the iPad. If using another kind of a device, some of these menus might look slightly different, but for the most part, they will be the same. If you look at where it says pressure sensitivity, it's currently straight in the center of this sliding scale, and what that means is that it's designed for the average amount of pressure that we would expect for somebody to use when they are touching the stylus to the canvas surface. But, not everybody draws the same way. Some of you are going to be more heavy-handed than others, some a little bit more light, so what you can do it, if you are one of those people who really digs in with their pencil when they're drawing on paper, for example, take that slider and push it up to medium-firm, or to firm, but if you have a very, very light touch, try it out on medium-light or light, and see how that feels when you're drawing with various brushes. Very easy to change that. Double tap means that if you have one of the newer Apple Pencils, you can double tap to have different items appear at your command. Currently, it's set to show color picker. There are other options here as well, or you can set it to no action, so you never accidentally trigger it if that's what you prefer. You also are using your hands. I can use my fingers to activate the touch modifier, or to pan, or zoom around my document, but in addition to that, I can also use my finger to draw if I choose to not use a stylus of any kind. You'll see here that finger settings are currently set to draw with brush, but you can do gestures only, you can use it as an eraser for example, and other things. So go ahead and customize this the way you want. Same with touch shortcut settings. You can see here that it says when you're using the brush tool, you can hold the touch shortcut to do certain things. By default, the touch shortcut which is our touch modifier will erase with your brush, but you can change some of those actions as well. Finally, we have the option to show touches. Throughout all of the videos in this course, I have this activated so that every time I make contact with my screen like this, you will see a blue circle appear. This is something that is useful for some people. Most people leave it off when they're drawing and painting so the blue circle does not get in the way of them seeing the linework that they're doing. Make Fresco your own with these customizable options to make the drawing and painting process even more enjoyable.
