- [Chris] Before we start looking at different types of construction cost data, both written type and using the online interactive tool, you should be aware that cost data will be organized in a particular data format. The most popular data formats are MasterFormat and UniFormat. MasterFormat is a standard that is used for organizing the written specifications for building projects in the USA and Canada. MasterFormat is a product of the Construction Specifications Institute. MasterFormat provides a logical list of divisions and section numbers with associated titles within each division to help organize sections and subsections and better navigate a project's construction requirements and processes.
