Drawing with the Pencil tool
- [Instructor] Let's see how you can use Inkscape's pencil tool to draw paths. To get the pencil tool, click it in the toolbox or press the keyboard shortcut "P" when you're not editing text. When you draw with a pencil tool, you're dragging on the canvas to draw free hand lines. Whether you're using a mouse or a pen and tablet, it's a very natural way to draw as opposed to working with nodes and handles as you do with the pen tool. In the tool controls bar, you'll see this control called smoothing. It controls how complex or simple the line is. At a low value, the lines you draw will not be very smooth. They'll follow the cursor exactly. I'll set this down to one, and draw a squiggly line, and you can see the effect. At higher values, like 40, you'll get a smoother effect. If you want to change the smoothing value of an existing path, make sure it's selected and then choose path, simplify, or use the keyboard…
