- The art of communication is the language of leadership. I love that quote by James Humes and that's exactly what intentional strategic communication is all about. It's all about leading towards an outcome. And this is our goal when we're conducting a disciplinary coaching conversation. Now to do so effectively, we need to be prepared both mentally and emotionally. It is not an option. So how should we prepare? Here are my top three favorites. And without these, I know for a fact, I'd not be able to make it through many a coaching conversation or even challenging conversations with friends or family. First, commit to remaining neutral with a dose of empathy. Neutral means you don't negatively react or make judgements.
