Getting to know the different types of grief

- There are five types of grief that I would like to discuss because I see them most frequently in the workplace. It's important for you to understand the different types of grief so that you can identify them and so that you also know why it is that people are grieving. The first type is personal grief, and it's just as it sounds, it's personal. So this is grief that really happens to you. The grief event is mostly yours, and it can be very concrete and intense. For example, a loved one dies, and we miss that loved one, we want them back. Maybe even our entire future has changed because of that loved one dying. This is personal grief. Collective grief is when a city, country or community are experiencing grief together. 9/11 is a good example. Many countries were grieving the deaths of 9/11. And collective grief often gives us an opportunity to connect with other people who are grieving. We hold candlelight vigils or…
