- When companies do spend analysis projects they want to jump right to cutting costs, but that's not the first step. The first step is to pull all the data from your company together. This means you've got to pull together data from different accounting systems. You might have one part of the company that uses one system, you might have another that's in a different system, you've got to pull that data together. If you're lucky, the company you're working with will have everything digitally stored, but sometimes there might be paper records, and you need to pull those into your analysis as well.
