(fanfare music) - [Announcer] Introducing Morten's extremely abbreviated and somewhat over simplified history of fonts on the web. - [Narrator] CERN, Switzerland, 1989. A scientist named Tim Berners-Lee has created the new open standard for the internet to share and interlink documents. There are three parts to this invention which he calls the worldwide web. The first is HTML, hypertext markup language to format documents. The second is HTTP, hypertext transfer protocol to transfer those documents between servers and computers. And the third is an application to access or browse those documents from any computer connected to the internet. - [Narrator 2] The web was built on a simple yet revolutionary idea. People should be able to access documents from their own computers and read them in a format of their choosing through a user agent application, the web browser.
