- Hi! Welcome to lesson one, chapter one, and the question we're going to be answering is, what must our stories do in order to connect with our audience and inspire them to action? And to do that, I want to talk a little bit about why stories are so powerful. Why do we respond to them? And the answer is pretty much that we've evolved to be hardwired to respond to stories in really specific ways. So imagine that you're a cave person back in cave-person times and you're in a tribe and there's a bunch of kids and you want to make sure the kids don't play with Bengal tigers, 'cause there's going to get eaten. There's two ways you can convince them not to play with the tiger. The first is to put a child with a tiger and everybody else watches that tiger eat the child. This is not awesome.
