Modifying Substance materials in Maya

- [Instructor] One of the nice things about Substance is that Substance materials can be modified interactively. So you're not stuck with just one surface, you can customize it to your needs. So here I have a scene here, and let's go ahead and render this in Arnold. And we've got this cube with a Substance generated material. So let's go ahead and change that material to customize it. So I'm going to move this over a little bit and then open up Hypershade. So in this, you'll see I've got this kind of complex network, but I have this Substance node here, kind of at the start of everything. So this Substance node can be modified. So if we scroll down, you'll see that we've got all of the stuff that we worked with before, which it creates the shader network, but we can also go down a little bit further to Substance parameters, and this will change depending upon the material that you're using. So each material will have different controls, some won't have any, some will have a whole lot of control. So let's go ahead and change some of these controls to see how we can manipulate this particular material. So we have this random seed which changes kind of the randomness of this particular concrete material. We can also change the color, so if I wanted to, I could create this cyan color. And as you can see, it really affects this concrete material. So I'm actually going to dial that down quite a bit. We can also change roughness, variations, contrast, we can make this more contrasty and so on. So what we can do is change these values depending upon how we want that material to look in our scene. Now if we want to, we can also change things such as UV mapping. So if I go here into UV and click on this arrow, you can see we get our standard UV map, and this will affect the entire Substance material. So if I wanted to have, say higher repeat, I could go from one to three and I will have a much finer grained material in the scene. So Substance materials are really great just by themselves, but most of them allow you to customize them as you go.
