- One thing I encourage you to consider as you make a decision about a mirrorless camera is the openness of the platform. Different manufacturers take very different stances towards collaboration and supporting other equipment. So, let's talk about a few specific examples. One of those is going to be batteries. Does your manufacturer allow you to work with third-party batteries. Batteries can get really expensive really quick, particularly if you need a lot. Since I do a lot of video work, I burn through batteries pretty quickly, shooting that is going to take up more power. Plus with a mirrorless camera, you're relying upon an electronic viewfinder or the live view display, which also will use far more power than you might be used to if you shoot on DSLRs.
