- [Narrator] Have you ever wondered how machinists are able to turn some lines and symbols on a piece of paper into complicated three-dimensional parts exactly as the engineer intended? Drafting standards are the answer and in this video we'll discuss why they are critical for effective collaboration between engineers and manufacturers. We'll also outline a few of the different drafting standards in use throughout the world. You can think of the lines, symbols, and conventions used in technical drawings as a sort of graphical language that engineers and machinists use to communicate complicated design requirements. Just as with any other language, a drawing should succinctly and unambiguously communicate the engineer's design intent. Drafting standards ensure everyone interprets drawings exactly the same way.
