- This week on the Practicing Photographer, I'm back with my friend Jim Heid, to talk more about archiving your old analogue photos in a digital age. Jim, you've been into this in a huge way, as we've covered. - Almost disturbingly. - Yeah. So, when I was here before, you were going through your dad's old photos, scanning them, organizing them, that was all great stuff. But now you've got a new challenge, which is your dad didn't just shoot 35mm film. Oh no, in fact, he never shot in 35mm film, he shot in 122 format film, which is also called postcard format, and it generates a negative that is three and a half, by five and a half inches. - That's like almost a 16:9 aspect ratio. - Yeah, it almost is, and the detail is incredible, this was Verichrome Pan film, it was a low ISO film, and the detail and the quality of the lens is gorgeous, it was almost like he was using a view camera to take his family photos.
