Steps to take in moderate conditions

- Whether you use the WBGT method, the simplified method, or the NIOSH Heat app, once you determine your heat hazard category, you have a set of steps and precautions to take depending on your category, low, moderate, high, or extreme. Let's start with the recommendations for the low heat hazard category. Most people can work safely in the low hazard category with only basic measures for worker safety and health. Follow the general prevention measures that I discussed earlier. Make sure to provide adequate amounts of drinking water in convenient, visible locations close to the work area and ensure that people are trained in recognizing the signs, symptoms and risk factors of heat illness. Additional precautions might be needed based on site conditions though, so things like workload and the protective clothing that workers are wearing, and that includes workers in heavy, non-breathable or impermeable protective clothing.…
