Tracing bitmap images

- [Instructor] When you want to create a vector version of a bitmap image like a photograph, you don't have to recreate it from scratch. You can use inkscape tracing features to do in seconds what it would take hours or even days to do manually. So, let's check it out. In the exercise file for this movie, there's important JPEG photos of the Eiffel tower and a Viking ship. The Eiffel tower is a complex image with tons of little detail and the Viking ship is a lot simpler. So, let's see the different kinds of results that we can get. We'll start with the Viking ship. I'll select it and press the three key on my keyboard to zoom to the size of the selection. And I'll also slide it over a little bit and then I'll choose path, trace bitmap. In the dialogue, we have two main modes for tracing, trace bitmap and pixel art. There's also a help tab with explanations of the features. We'll stick here with trace bitmaps…
