Understanding and switching between metering modes

- In order to get proper exposure, you need to ensure that your camera has an accurate meter. The meter is what measures the light in the scene and influences the camera in how it determines other settings. Now, your camera's going to get it right most of the time, but most cameras offer the ability to switch metering modes to really help the camera out. Now, the exact modes will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and you may have to go into a menu or you might have a dedicated dial. It really just depends on the camera. Here, we're shooting with a Fuji and I see a simple ring here that I could easily change by just pushing to the different options, and I'm going to set it to the most common setting here, which is multi. Multi is going to determine exposure based on an analysis of the overall scene. It looks at the composition, brightness, and the distribution of elements and it analyzes that to make some…
