Use the right style when placing dimensions

- [Instructor] In the previous video, we outlined two fundamental rules that must be satisfied for an engineering drawing to be considered complete. But we also mentioned that there are usually multiple ways a drawing can be dimensioned that satisfy these requirements. In this video, we'll discuss some stylistic guidelines for placing dimensions that will increase drawing legibility, as well as the functional impact of different dimensioning schemes. First, let's talk about how dimensions should be placed on the drawing sheet. Dimensions and notes should always be positioned outside the part outline. This helps the parts profile stand out on the drawing. To make it clear what feature is being dimensioned, two extension lines project away from the outline, and then a dimension line with arrows at either end is drawn between them.
