Using the self-timer

- One of the more unusual features that most cameras have is a self timer. This is useful because it actually will start the camera and then take the shot a little bit later. What this means is that you can use it for a couple of purposes. Maybe you're shooting in a low-light situation, so when you press the self-timer, you want to give the camera a moment to settle down before it takes the shot, minimizing vibration. Or maybe you want to end up in the picture, so you've got the camera on a tripod, you press the button, and you run around and join the group shot. It works well. In this case, I'm going to use it because I want to get the shot, but I want to be able to come over here and adjust things a little bit. So, I could use the self-timer, so that I could get more done with just me and my camera. Here's how it works.
