What is Inkscape?
- [Instructor] In this movie, we'll answer the question, what is Inkscape? Inkscape is a program for creating and editing vector graphics, similar to applications like Adobe Illustrator and CorelDRAW. Inkscape is multi-platform. In this course, I'll be using Inkscape in Windows, but it also works in macOS and Linux. And there are two main things that distinguish Inkscape from other popular graphics programs. First, Inkscape is an open source program, licensed under the GNU GPL, or general public license. This means that Inkscape is completely free, you don't have to pay for it, you can download it, use it, make copies of it, and distribute them, all without paying anything to anyone. The second thing that distinguishes Inkscape is its file format. Inkscape files are SVG files, SVG stands for scalable vector graphics, which is an XML-based format for creating graphics files.
