- There's a scene in Woody Allen's 1980 movie "Stardust Memories," where two people are walking out of a movie theater. "What do you think was the significance of the Rolls Royce?" asks the first person. "I think it represented his car," replies the second. If you choose to exhibit your photos somewhere, you're going to have to create an artist's statement. You know what I mean, those statements that hang next to an exhibit and try to explain things like the significance of a Rolls Royce. So let's get one thing out of the way right now. I know you hate the idea of writing an artist's statement. I know this because I do, too, as does just about everyone else on the planet. It's a miserable process. It feels pretentious, and artist's statements almost always seem jargon-laden, overly intellectual, and often insincere. I know you're waiting for the but here, so I'll just get right to it.
