The other meaning of practice

- As our title implies here at The Practicing Photographer we believe that regular thoughtful practice is necessary for you to improve as a photographer. Not everyone thinks of seeing as something you need to practice but it is. And the best evidence of this is that you get better as a photographer over time. But there is another use of the word practice and that is to use it as doctors and lawyers do when they speak of having a legal or medical practice. I've always appreciated that the idea of having a practice implies that there's no end point. There's no being finished. Every time they refer to their practice, a doctor or lawyer is inherently saying, "I am not completely trained, I can still grow and improve". The title The Practicing Photographer was concocted by Jim Hyde, a guy who has a great and sometimes stomach churning love of puns. And I've always appreciated that there's a kind of pun-ish quality to this title. On the one hand it implies the idea of working your skills…
