- Before we begin, let's talk about the role of presets. For many users, presets are viewed as the hugest time saver possible. And a lot of folks become crippled by them. They become so dependent upon presets that they lose the ability to create custom effects or custom color grades. You see, presets are meant to be an enabler. Think of em as recipes in a cookbook. But you still ultimately need to know how to cook. If you use a preset correctly, it's a great way to document or save time by capturing your own great work so you can easily access it again in the future.
