- Your choice of a location for a portrait or even a product shot or still life is a critical part of getting good results. Today on the Practicing Photographer I'm going to offer you a single word that will make that location decision much easier. Corners. If you go back and look at previous episodes of this series or at some of my other courses, you'll notice that I am often sitting in or in front of a corner. This is not coincidence. Jacob Cunningham, our director, very pointedly looks for corners when he enters a location, and for good reason. In this frame right now, look at what that corner back there is providing. First, there are the leading lines. The lines on that brick wall over there, the lines on that piece of furniture, because they're on the axes of the corner, those lines end up pointing at me.
