- Officially, there are only two formats that are supported for video and audio files. They're based on the MPEG-4 standard. You can choose to create an MP4 file for video or an M4A file for audio. However, chances are that iBooks Author could handle other formats. It just may convert them when you drag it in. If it's something that QuickTime Player can open, generally speaking, it's something that will be converted when you bring it in. However, it's a very good idea to optimize those files in advance. This could be done a few different ways. Now, when you bring a media file into iBooks Author, it's going to typically use the Media widget. You could add the Media widget in advance and then drag files in or put a video or audio file into your presentation and then it will automatically create the widget.
