Optical zoom vs. digital zoom
- [Instructor] Some iPhone models come with multiple cameras that allow you to take advantage of two or even three different lenses. This allows for optical zoom, which refers to changing the view of the scene by using actual lenses. In the case of iPhones with these, this is achieved by tapping the buttons for the different lenses. These are identified with a multiplication factor for each lens. On this iPhone 12 Pro Max, I have ultra wide at 0.5 times, normal wide angle at one times, and telephoto at 2.5 times. The 12 Pro Max is currently the only iPhone with a 2.5 times lens. There is also a digital zoom feature that you can use on single lens iPhones, as well as those with two or three lenses. This is accessed by using a two-finger expand or pinch gesture on the screen, or by tapping on one of the len's buttons, and then swiping on the arc dial that appears.
