Split cell data into columns in Excel

- [Garrick] Hi, I'm Garrick Chow and welcome to Monday Productivity Pointers. If you use Excel, you've most likely run into situations like this, where data is contained in a single cell but you need to split them into separate cells. In this case, I have a name column, but I need first and last names in their own separate columns. Now obviously typing the names in manually would be pretty time-consuming. So instead let's select the cells we want to split and then come up to the Data tab. And here we'll find Text to Columns. And this window that appears, I'm going to select Delimited, which means that there's a character that separates the items that I want to split. In this case, there's a space between the first and last names but this also works for commas, tabs, and other characters. I'll select Next. And here we choose the actual delimiter that's being used.
