T-tests: Chapter overview

- [Instructor] In our next chapter on t-tests in Jamovi, we're going to go from the piece to the whole, that is, we're going to start with inferential statistics, which allows us to describe a sample of data that we have in front of us, and then use that to describe a population, something larger and more than what we observed. We are using the sample to infer things about the population, and the t-test is the simplest and most direct way to get started with this. In this chapter, we're going to talk about three kinds of t-tests. First, we'll look at the independent samples t-test that you use to compare two groups' means to each other. The second is the paired-samples, or repeated measures t-test, where you're looking for changes in scores from time one to time two for one group of people. And third is the one-sample t-test, where you're taking one sample's mean and comparing it to a known population mean. Taken together, the three of these serve as an excellent introduction to the…
